COMMITMENT TO RESPONSIBILITY

SCA Design is committed to continually improving performance through the effective implementation of environmental sustainable design management systems. All employees are trained on how, and expected, to conduct their role specific activities in an environmentally responsible and compliant manner.

RECYCLING, REUSE, & ELIMINATION OF WASTE

Our environmentally minded firm has a strict recycling, reuse, and elimination program. We buy local. We reuse whenever possible. We look at ways to prevent waste production. We encourage the elimination of waste at the source. We purchase minimal office supplies and reuse the second side of all paper. Ink cartridges are reused and recycled. We provide collection bins.  Waste materials are sorted and disposed of with careful consideration. Drinking water filtration systems are used in office to help eliminate the use of plastics.

ENERGY CONSUMPTION/REDUCTION

• Electronics- All office electronic equipment is programmed to sleep mode when not in use.
• Thermostats- Office thermostats utilize smart technology to customize heating and cooling schedules and are programmed to energy saving temperatures to maximize efficiency based on occupancy levels.
• Natural Light- Our South facing wall provides natural light year-round, eliminating the need for excessive overhead lighting. Energy saving window coverings are used and adjusted seasonally.
• LED Bulbs- Energy efficient LED bulbs are in use.

ELECTRONIC FILES

It is standard practice for our firm to provide electronic files. Every effort is made to encourage the use of electronic files by vendors. Hard copy and printed copies are available upon request.  Electronic submissions are preferred over paper when submitting to clients and local municipalities.

FUEL ECONOMY

Our firm has one company vehicle and we maintain it to the highest standards to maximize fuel economy and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

CAR POOLING

Our firm encourages employee carpooling and we have an average of 38% carpool participation on daily travel, and 100% compliance on team outings.

Our Sustainable design program combines aspects of green building, sustainable design and energy efficiency to develop healthier communities and discover effective solutions to reduce waste, energy consumption, and water challenges.

We design with sustainable, code compliant practices in mind, that improve performance, heightening efficiency while reducing environmental impact in new and existing buildings through enhanced operations and thoughtful maintenance design. SCA Design promotes the efficient use of natural resources and materials in our designs. Our team will educate the client with ways to save and create sustainability while using recycled products, locally sourced and natural materials.  We minimize waste generation through efforts that include source reduction, recycling, innovation and pollution prevention. Through careful planning and evaluation, we look to see how we can identify additional improvements.

IMPLEMENTATION

Building design, construction and improvement of residential, commercial interiors and exterior improvements and tenant spaces that offer a healthy, sustainable and productive live-work environment are of utmost importance. The team at SCA design implements these principles into site planning and design, building design and construction, building management practices and education.

Once design is complete and we move into sourcing and development, we communicate our compliance expectations to contractors, consultants and suppliers. We collaborate with regulators, agencies, industry organizations and customers to promote and achieve common objectives. Partnerships with local energy savings and rebate programs are encouraged by our team. We help clients apply for and save with available incentives.
