Sheldon Colen

The Boss- leader of the architectural and design team at SCA Design, Las Vegas Architectural Firm

Age 15…

Get to know the architectural and design team starts with getting to know the principal architect. Sheldon Colen knew he was destined to a career in architecture when at 15 years old he was commissioned to design and oversee the construction of a home.  After winning numerous state architecture contests throughout high school, he continued his studies and received a certificate in Architecture & Design (1986).  Colen was also one of the first to master and embrace Computer Aided Design (CAD) in which he was certified (1986).  His original rendering of a design studio, “Bullpen,” won the CADDIES contest in the Still Image Category (1993).

1986…

Starting practice in 1986, Colen has had a long and fulfilling career in planning, architecture and residential design.   He has successfully combined his experiences in all aspects of these disciplines to assist his clients in bringing to life innovative, functional projects with a watchful eye on budgets to achieve their goals.

Working for Tate & Snyder Architects of Las Vegas (1986 – 1993), Colen established and managed the CAD Department and was quickly promoted to Project Job Captain.  He went on to work for Richard Youngblood Architects (1993-1994). There he discovered his true passion in residential design.  This passion led him to open his own firm in 1995.

1995…

In 1995, Sheldon Colen opened SCA Design in Las Vegas, Nevada (1995 – present).

2010…

In 2010, Colen partnered with Gary Carlson.  Together, they have a combined experience that exceeds 70+ years. The team completes over 200 projects per year. Carlson has been practicing architecture since 1979.  Carlson is a licensed architect in Nevada and Utah.  Colen is a Nevada native with more than 50 years of local knowledge. In 2019, Colen added to his Nevada credentials and registered in the state of Arizona as a licensed architect. SCA Design is licensed in Nevada, Utah, and Arizona.

Today, architectural and design team…

Today, architect Sheldon Colen, leads the Las Vegas based SCA Design team of thirteen. SCA Design specializes in commercial architecture, hospitality design, retail architecture, entertainment and casino design, tenant improvement, as well as custom residential design and interiors. When he’s not running the office, Colen’s running Disney marathons, “where every mile is magic!” Sheldon is a Disney fanatic. He leads his team with the belief as, Walt Disney would say, “It’s kind of fun to do THE IMPOSSIBLE”.
