Architecture Firm Hires Summer Intern through Clark County Summer Business Institute (SBI). SBI is an opportunity for high school students to apply and gain internship experience through an 8 week internship program. The program includes life skills workshops. Clark County started this program in 1996. It provides real-world experience for students in various fields of medicine, technology, law, specialty services and more. Now in its 27th year, Clark County’s Summer Business institute attracts increasing numbers of students and businesses every year.
First the students apply online, then if their application is accepted they are scheduled to have an interview. Afterward, they compete with over 120 other students for 75 positions. If the student is accepted, they are matched with the company that is closest to their area of interest. The interns work Monday through Wednesday: 8 hours a day for $11.25 an hour. Additionally, the interns participate in online workshops with guest speakers. They learn about finances, loans, college, taxes, and other necessary life skills. Through this program students are able to prepare for adult life and get specialized work experience.

One of the companies a part of the program is SCA Design. SCA Design is a full service architectural and design firm, certified as a Local Emerging Small Business. Sheldon Colen is Architect and Owner. Since 1995, SCA Design has been serving Las Vegas, Henderson, and the state of Nevada. Today, the architecture firm is licensed in Nevada, Utah, Idaho, and Arizona and has offices in Henderson and Scottsdale. The architecture firm offers a wide scope of design services. Services include design-assist, design-build, and ground up design; stunning architecture, organized planning, and development with exquisite Interior Design, provided through on time and in budget quality services. SBI interns work under supervisor Nickel Lowman, who is in charge of regional marketing and business development. Interns develop emotional intelligence skills, return on investment strategy, marketing, and AI technology and business development. This variety allows SCA Design interns to excel in their work, and grow skills that will benefit them in their future.
Summer Interns Excels in Position
Through the internship with SCA Design they learn the importance of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and how it relates to marketing and business development. As deliverables, interns create marketing content, write press releases, manage data through Excel and Google Sheets, learn about search engine optimization (SEO) in marketing, photoshop and image editing, and learns to implement AI technology. Furthermore, they learned to apply these skills to specific goals in business, while understanding Return on Investment (ROI) and specialty target markets. SCA Design is happy to have Mx. Rivera-Gonzalez a part of the team and is excited to see how they will grow in the future.
Meet our intern- Mx. Nina Rivera- Gonzalez
Architecture Firm Hires Summer Intern: Nina Rivera-Gonzalez joins the SCA Design team for internship. Mx. Rivera-Gonzalez is an incoming Senior at Coronado High School. Mx. Rivera-Gonzalez stays active in their school community. Roles include Executive Board member in the Advanced Placement Executive council, President of Environmental club, Vice President of Finance of DECA, Treasurer of NHS and Science Olympiad, and more. During their time in high school, Mx. Rivera-Gonzalez has won various awards such as DECA Personal Financial Literacy International qualifier and Bowers Golf Cup. By the end of their academic career Mx. Rivera-Gonzalez will have taken 13 AP classes, graduate as an AP Scholar with Distinction and graduate with Advanced Honors.
Outside of school Mx. Rivera-Gonzalez has been involved in several internships such as SCA Design Marketing, UT Southwestern Medical Center of Psychiatry, and Notre Dame Leadership Seminars Program for the Environment. Mx. Rivera-Gonzalez is also a Freelance artist under the account @hippie_nina_arts and has a mental health awareness and support account under the name @starandsoleil on Instagram. From these activities Mx. Rivera-Gonzalez has shown their work ethic, willingness to grow, and their drive to succeed. In the future Mx. Rivera-Gonzalez plans to go to college for psychology and later earn their PhD.
